William R. Boone High School is proud to introduce its new principal and OCPS alumnus, Dr. Hector Maestre.

“This is an opportunity that is going to help me grow in new and exciting ways as I learn about the Boone community and culture, which is a legacy for so many families,” Maestre said. “There is so much pride that exists here. I feel fully embraced.”

Dr. Maestre began his education career in 2007 at his alma mater, Colonial High School, where he taught World History, AP European History, U.S. Government and Economics. His love of history was inspired by Steve Conti, his eighth grade U.S. History teacher at Liberty Middle School.

“From the moment that I walked across that stage for graduation, I knew I wanted to come back,” Maestre said. “I’ve wanted to be a teacher all my life.”

Dr. Maestre also served as a sponsor for student government and assistant coach for the boys’ and girls’ water polo teams while teaching at Colonial.

After deciding to diversify his experience as an educator, Dr. Maestre began the transition from the classroom to administration. Beginning in 2012, he served as an assistant principal at Evans High School before being appointed to his first principalship at Carver Middle School in 2015. Maestre went on to serve as principal for the opening of Innovation Middle School in 2017 and then returned to his alma mater when he was appointed to Colonial High School in 2019. During his time as principal, Colonial saw its highest graduation rate and college and career acceleration rates in school history.

When asked what commonality could be found between the many schools in which he has served thus far, Dr. Maestre said: “Every student at every school wants to be successful no matter what their education/career path. Their academics matter to them. Schools exist for kids, what they are interested in and what they want to learn. All kids want to be successful, and it is the school’s responsibility to get them there, whether that be technical school, the military, college or directly into a career. I am ALL in for the Boone Braves community. I will advocate for every student and will do whatever I can to ensure every student who walks on our campus and eventually across that stage to graduate reaches their full potential.”
