Lake Lawsona/ Fern Creek awarded by Orlando Historic Preservation Board

The Lake Lawsona/Fern Creek Neighborhood Association held its quarterly meeting on April 9 and announced that it received the 2019 Outstanding Community Organization of the Year award by the Orlando Historic Preservation Board.

The association was recognized for its efforts to be listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and its successful street sign topper project to help identify the Lake Lawsona Historic District with custom street sign toppers at 32 intersections within the neighborhood. The award will be presented to the association at the City Council Meeting on May 13 at 2 p.m. Neighbors involved in these activities included Vivian Ward, Jeff Smith, Logan Lamphere and David Desforges.

Officer Eddie Rosado attended the first portion of the meeting to brief residents on city projects that were planned in the weeks ahead and to answer questions. Other topics discussed included the recent event “Private Gardens of Historic Orlando featuring Lake Eola Heights Historic District,” a briefing on neighborhood watch by OPD’s Lauri Brooks, Mayor Dyer’s annual Volunteer and National Service Recognition event on April 16, Orlando’s Bicycle Plan update, OPD’s women’s self-defense class scheduled for April 23, an update on a proposed historic district within the Forest Manor area of Lake Lawsona/ Fern Creek and an update on current and future officers for the organization.

 

 

Anne DiCiero and Jarrett Bradbury will be departing as officers and new volunteers are being identified to lead the organization into 2020. Lake Lawsona/ Fern Creek wishes to thank DiCiero and Bradbury for their time and efforts over the last year.
